Question

How do I start looking into an adult autism assessment in Wales?

Wales has Integrated Autism Services, but referral details, triage, waiting and private-report handling can differ by health board, so one local pathway must not be presented as a national rule.

Current understanding

Adult autism assessment in Wales is delivered through NHS Wales services, including regional Integrated Autism Services, but operational access is local. Current Cardiff and Vale evidence shows one IAS using referral, triage and then full assessment where indicated; other health boards publish their own routes. NICE CG142 provides professional adult autism assessment guidance in England and Wales, but it does not itself establish a local referral route. A private report may be reviewed against local service requirements; Cardiff and Vale explicitly states its own NICE-based acceptance checks, which must not be assumed to bind every Welsh service. England Right to Choose is not a Welsh entitlement. ND Oracle does not diagnose from screening or recommend a private provider.
