Current understanding

NHS Wales records autism and ADHD neurodevelopmental assessment pathways for people under 18 across health boards, while the operational route is local. Current Betsi Cadwaladr information is one example of a holistic service gathering information about a child across home, education and health settings; its exact age/referral rules are local and must not be generalised to all Wales. NICE CG128 provides professional diagnostic guidance in England and Wales but does not create a local referral route. Welsh Government is currently funding work to reduce long child neurodevelopmental waits and improve consistency. England Right to Choose does not apply in Wales. Educational support and a clinical autism diagnosis are distinct questions.
