Current understanding

The NHS says that if ADHD-like difficulties are affecting a child, speaking with teachers/SENCO and the GP are useful starting points. If support at home and school is not enough, a GP or SENCO may be asked about referral for an ADHD assessment. Specialist assessment considers symptoms, development, family life and information from school; a checklist or computer task is not by itself a diagnosis. Waiting may be months or years and support at home and school should continue while waiting. In England, Right to Choose may allow an eligible NHS assessment with another NHS-funded provider. Diagnosis is separate from any later medication, titration, prescribing or shared-care decision. ND Oracle does not diagnose a child from symptoms or recommend medication.
